Byumba Nursery Education

Why Nursery education? Hope Academy

On a visit to Rwanda in 2018 we were advised that the Rwandan government had ruled that children who do not attend and complete nursery education cannot progress onto primary. Therefore, if a child misses out on nursery, they will be barred from receiving any education at all in the future. For families trapped in poverty, struggling to provide food daily, the education of their children is the only way out.

Icyizere Academy (which means hope) provides a Christ-centred Early Childhood Development programme. Initially it was a childcare facility in the community for children of single mothers, while they sought work.

In 2019 it transitioned from basic childcare to a structured educational programme, with qualified teachers and a principal to plan & oversee the academic curriculum. Life Link Rwanda are responsible for day to day running and management of the nursery and accountability to the Rwandan Govt.

The nursery children range from 2-6 years old, and most are from single parent families, or children of widows or the poorest in the area. Mission24 LIFE continue to support this work through the provision of grants to help the most vulnerable receive Nursery Education.

This year will be the fourth class of children to graduate with the opportunity to progress to Primary Education. To sow hope as well as educationally into these young lives is a privilege and a beautiful expression of LIFE. We believe every child deserves to be loved, inspired, receive Faith in Jesus and an opportunity for Education.

The Building Project

Through generous donations we have been able to partner with Life Link Rwanda with the building project of the LIFE Centre. It will become the base for the Icyizere Academy alongside being a centre for community projects and further teaching & training opportunities .

It was a privilege to dedicate the LIFE Centre on our visit February 2026 along with the local dignitaries. The building work continues -completion is now set for July 2026 so that the September cohort of students can be welcomed on site instead of the rented facility in current use.

We believe that every need shall be met & that God will be glorified in and through this project.

Mission24 LIFE considered it vital to alleviate this situation by providing nursery education for those who couldn’t otherwise afford it.
